Since 1996 he is collecting vinyl of different styles. What he buys is what he likes. And he plays what he likes. The DJ work is performed by him since 1997 on the classical way with two turntables and one mixer. He is playing monthly to stay in touch with the crowd and to bring energy on the floor.
For four years he broadcasts every month on coloRadio (Dresden 98,4 & 99,3 Mhz) and over the internet. At this time he presents two shows, showcasing new music, interest artists, labels, and projects.
New month, new show, new guests, the series continues with three specials. In April Nadja Lind did a great job contributing an exclusive mix to the Colair.FM radio show, a mix that featured her project ‘Klartraum’ that she is doing in collaboration with Helmut Ebritsch. Klartraum released their deep yet wonderfully eclectic second album “Secret Moon” on May 22nd, on Nadja’s and Helmut’s own imprint Lucidflow. “Secret Moon” is a rich and diverse collection of tracks that reflect Klartraum’s journey since the release of their debut LP, “Evolution” in 2011. I invited both to a chat about the label, Klartraum and their expectations on the new album.

Have you ever heard of mulletover or murmur? I guess you have, otherwise listen up to Stuart Geddes telling you about his career involving the founding of club night and label mulletover and murmur - Stuart also picked three favorite tracks to introduce them in the show.

Last but not least and today’s highlight already, I have Crosstown Rebels’ new hero Amirali for an interview. I’m over the moon to be showcasing his debut album “In Time” that is being released on the number one label in the world (Resident Advisor 2011)! Amirali jumped at the chance to present three of his favorite tracks as well. Stay tuned!

It’s competition time, win two copies of Soul Clap’s “EFUNK” debut on Wolf + Lamb< and two copies of Geddes’ “mulletover: The Story So Far 2004-2012” compilation mixed by him. All the best!

Since there are so many great releases out now that truly can’t be played in 60 minutes, I started to recommend unplayed ones that will be listed in the info sheet as well, needless to say links to previews on SoundCloud provided.

this month’s show serves you three specials, two competitions and dozens of new and partly unreleased stuff out of the EDM scene, in only 60 minutes. Impossible! Indeed, hundreds of unread e-mails with promotional content that needs to be listened, hundreds of spoken words recorded in a Skype chat that needs to be reworked, selected tracks out of the promo pool that needs to be glued together, and some creative input that someone would call moderation. I really need some help! And feedback of course! Guys do you like that?

The confirmed specials are

- “Secret Moon” album showcase with words by Klartraum

- mulletover / mumur showcase with words by Geddes

- “In Time” debut album showcase with words by Amirali

You can win

- two copies of Soul Clap’s debut album ”EFUNK“ out on Wolf + Lamb

- two copies of “mulletover. The Story so far 2004-2012” mixed by Geddes

Artist albums that will be mentioned

- Ame’s “Live” out on Innervisions (released May 7th)

- DJ W!LD’s “Dirty” out on Cabin Fever (released May 14th)

- “Body Language Vol 11” mixed by Nôze out on Get Physical (released May 18th)

Artist album previews

The sun came up only one time between Chris Hreno’s guest DJ set in Dresden and this broadcast. After an amazing night spinning records in the club with his Montreal mate Colin de la Plante as the duo Valerie Temple Boyd, he now contributes a mix to Colair.FM, with some works of genius straight out of his record bag. Chris is a talented artist born in Montreal and living in Berlin now, he has collaborated with Mathew Jonson and Cobblestone Jazz and released on Sound Architecture and Fur Trade to name a few. He has performed at various clubs and festivals including Der Visionaries, Arena, Watergate, Tresor, Stereo, Effenaar, The City Is Yours, and Montreal’s Mutek Festival. Chris is a nice guy on his way to conquer the world, and I appreciate his short stop to spin records and hope you love the next 80 minutes of quality music. Cheers!

The remix takes a new direction and begins with just a string of kicks, before opening the hi-hats and bass.

Tim Winters slowly pulls the covers off before hitting the bass with all the right intentions. The chords slowly build toward achieving the nu-disco feel of the original. Tim adds a bit of a deeper feel to the mix to complete the remix.

The ‘Retouch’ adds an updated flair to the original track, keeping things current with a few cuts here and there, a very interesting listen.

SIOPIS lays his version on us, with his singature deep vibes and dirty basslines. A solid addition to a great EP.

A momentous slice of Cosmic Garage that is about to transform your summer forever!

Long-term friends and cohorts Ali Love and Luca C have succeeded with something quite extraordinary in their new production guise as Infinity Ink. Already amassing a legion of support and an escalating fan-base their unique cosmic take on garage has struck a chord with the dance-floor and beyond. ‘Infinity’ has been one of Crosstown Rebels most highly anticipated records of recent times. A smattering of DJ’s, from Jamie Jones, Seth Troxler, Damian Lazarus, Lee Foss and Art Department have been championing its intoxicating qualities to nigh on sonic-hysteria over the past few months. Luca and Ali’s anthemic ‘Infinity’ is set to reach epidemic proportions this summer!

‘Infinity’ is an incredibly hooky slice of left of centre underground house, which encompasses elements of garage, through a hallucinatory resonance that cleverly maintains its notion of pop-sensibility. Ali’s evocative trademark vocal phrasing faultlessly compliments the monstrous disco bass line and intoxicating melody. A perfect unison that culminates in a piece of music that is pure hedonistic joy!

When remixing such a ground breaking piece of leftfield garage, who would be more suitable than Todd Edwards, and here he goes the extra mile to deliver arguably his best remix of recent years. The remix king of hypnotic staccato garage, Todd takes ‘Infinity’ to the next level and whisks you away to The Raleigh at WMC ‘96! On the flip, the guys jack the groove and deliver another killer in the guise of ‘House of Infinity’. A superb compliment to ‘Infinity’, this is for more peak-time play, as disco fills, jacking hi-hats and Ali’s hypnotic vocals mesmerize the listener into a spellbinding state of dance-floor bliss.

Ali Love’s prolific career has witnessed him produce two artist albums; several hit singles, and provided the vocals on hits by The Chemical Brothers, Justice, M Craft and Hot Natured. Luca C, formally of Luca C & Brigante fame, has been producing music under various guises and in various band for years and has recently co-written and produced a track on Jamie Jones’s latest album. Besides working together as Infinity Ink, Luca and Ali are working on a project with Jamie and Hot Creations – more news to be announced soon. So now, with Infinity Ink as the combination of their extraordinary talents, the future is looking very bright indeed for Luca and Ali.

Both Matt Tolfrey and Kate Simko have formidable reputations within the modern dance music landscape. Tolfrey has become one of house musicʼs safest hands in recent years via an open minded attitude to DJing, on-point stewardship of Leftroom and increasingly frequent forays into the studio while Simko garners huge respect as one of the most forward thinking and talented guardianʼs of Chicagoʼs house music legacy, and thatʼs just one of the strings to her bow.

A true transatlantic collaboration, ʻThe Same Pageʼ was borne out of a instant studio chemistry between Tolfrey and Simko following a Chicago-based session just after the Detroit Movement Festival May 2011. After nine months of stolen sessions amongst the incredibly busy duoʼs touring schedules, ʻSame Pageʼ was finished in London earlier this year and the results have already given rise to chatter about live shows and longer-term projects.

Despite the all round skill sets these two producers possess, thereʼs a distinct breakdown in roles across the ʻSame Pageʼ EP. Tolfreyʼs sense of arrangement and adroit use of basslines meets Kateʼs superb keyboard and drum work throughout and Chicagoʼs jack meets Londonʼs moody elegance head on.

From the jazz-inflected futurism of lead cut ʻTake it Easyʼ, the discoid discordant funk and fluid progression of ʻLazy Bʼ and subtly dubbed, melancholic creep of ʻNo Shameʼ, ʻThe Same Pageʼ EP is shining example of contemporary house music. With Tolfreyʼs debut LP in progress and Kateʼs solo debut for Leftroom just around the corner, this is just a taster of things to come too.

A track that manages to be pacey, immersive and light at the same time is a rare commodity and Dubois absolutely nails it.

Vincenzos Yeah Yeah Yeah sees some superb keyboard work from the Poker Flat legend. Warm pads, fluttering arps, shimmering strings and some nifty filter work all combine into a slick killer.

Audio Tonic man Raxon has the difficult task of following three world-renowned producers but steps up brilliantly with Dreamer. A searing Reece bassline provides a robust gut the track while filtered key flourishes pass across it and its stripped drum track. Rousing, fresh and individual, Dreamer is an epic closer to a must-check EP.

Blas, the man behind Italyʼs AtlaVoz events, and its first release is the six track showcase EP ʻSounds of Altavozʼ featuring Alex Piccini, Paolo Tamoni, Okee Ru, Autre and Kaysand as well as Blas himself.

For the uninitiated, AltaVoz is one of Italyʼs most prominent but discerning underground music events. Starting out in Venice just over four years ago, the events have since spread to other Italian cities where the likes of Thomas Melchior, Marcel Dettmann, Dorian Paic, Kevin Saunderson, Kiki and countless other bastions of quality electronic music have featured.

Grand Canal is an extension of the AltaVoz stamp of quality and this inaugural release showcases six tracks that explore contemporary house music with style and grace. Max D. Blas ʻBanqueroʼ track leads, fusing classic Nu Yorican touches to a dense, modern groove while Kaysand further develops the mix with the light, vocal-kissed ʻFollowʼ.

Autre and Okee Ru delve into varying levels of the deep with ʻRatsʼ and ʻMad for Her Skinʼ respectively while Paolo Tamoni and Area Remoteʼs Alex Piccini opt for takes on low slung instrumental house for ʻFlag Brothersʼ and closing track, ʻNite Parkʼ.

All in all, ʻSounds of AltaVozʼ is a strong snapshot of a new generation of house and a superb debut release for Grand Canal Records.
